What should I do to fix my computer, the screen is black and it’s reading an error message?

March 28th, 2010

My computer is reading an error saying that Windows security Center has detected spyware/adware infection and it recommends that I use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss. I don’t know what to do. I have Norton so I thought things like this would be prevented and on top of everything else it is now sooooo very slow! What should I do? I don’t really trust letting anyone fix on my computer since this all happened a couple of months after I had it fixed for another infection that caused nasty pop ups!
I am able to get onto the internet and it’s working fine. It’s just my desktop programs that are slow. (word, any icon that I click, everything on the desktop) M y AVG did pick up a malware I also have something called Clean Up but they are all running slowly and if I leave to wait on it, when I come back it’s gone. The clean up program is only running in demo mode so I’m trying to get that going. I am trying some of the things you guys listed below. Thanks so much!

back up your files and format it (your PC)… just to be safe.

Here’s a link on doing it yourself

If your PC used to be faster, or is acting strangely, it’s probably infected with malware. Use the link below to learn more about “malware”.

Then, you need to install: ONE Anti-virus (I use AVG free), ONE Firewall (Zone Alarm free), and Anti-spyware tools like: Windows Defender, Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster and cCleaner (free, use all 5 regularly).

Google for them, install them and learn how to use them (use Help TAB).

TIP: Last resort, back up (copy to CD / DVD / external hard drive) all personal data and do a Windows “Clean Install”, get more info at (www.theeldergeek.com). The apps above can only clean up so much.

I would save any important files, images, docs and just do a system restore to a date when it was all working great.

Keep in mind it will take your computer back to that date you select so you loose things you did since that date.

Programs / accessories / system tools / system restore

    Okay,
    first,
your computer has now become either a Zombie or its malfunctioning VERY badly.
    Now,
    don’t worry.

    1. reboot to safe mode with networking.
download Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot Search and Destroy, SUPER Anti spyware, and if possible, buy Spy-Sweeper.
    2. run full scans after install.
    Fix whatever comes up.
    reboot
    3. go to safe mode again
uninstall Norton by going to Add/Remove folder.
    if that doesn’t work,
reboot to safemode with networking and download
    the norton removal tool from
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
    Run it .
    Reboot to safemode with networking.
    download
a trial version of System Mechanic 7 Pro from
    http://www.iolo.com/sm/7/pro/download.aspx
    install it and then
run a deep analysis from the icon at the top.
Then repair anything that comes up in the Problem Task List
    Reboot – safemode
    run system mechanic pro again,
go to the right hand list
    select Enhance Protection
    Run the PC Security Wizard.
Use deep scan and fix everything that comes up (probably not necessary)
Reboot to safe mode with networking
Download the ZoneAlarm Free firewall if you don’t already.
If you have a firewall, uninstall it
If its ZoneAlarm Pro, don’t download Free and don’t uninstall.
    Now, then download
AVG Anti-virus unless you want to pay for a better one – McAfee Anti-virus.

run a full scan with AVG/McAfee
    fix whatever comes up
    reboot to normal
run a full scan with all those stuff you downloaded earlier including AVG/McAfee

    Fix whatever comes up
    I think that’ll fix it
    if not
    email chaoslord48@gmail.com for more

Please message me and advise if you are even able to get onto the internet. If you can, here is an “online scanner”, server is direct from Kaspersky Russia, rated # 1 in virus detection. Run the complete online scan as it will have no conflict iwth your own antivirus program. When the scan is complete, reboot. Will kill all viruses in real time. Scan can take upto two hours depending on how many program you have installed and how many running processes you have.

    http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Or you can press over and over on your key, “F8″, until you can get into a safe mode and run your antivirus. Nortons is pure junk so I doubt if the program will help you at all.
