How to fix the computer that stops after windows logo?

My computer stops responding with a black screen after windows logo showed up. How can I fix this problem? i run in safe mode and it works. Can I make a backup file in safe mode? Can I scan my computer in safe mode? How?
Windows version?
Try booting in to “Last Known Good” rather than safe mode.
If that fails, try running System Restore (if you are running XP or Vista) from safe mode.
If that fails or you’re running an older version of windows, boot from the Windows Install CD and choose the “Repair” option.
