Help! HP Compaq NC6000 Laptop flicker video problem!
I’m posting this video as an effort to get some insight on what could be the root cause of a laptop video problem I am experiencing. I purchased this laptop as a replacement for the same model laptop from ebay for around $100.00 and I expected some issues, but based on the description the laptop at least seemed like it had no issues. I used it for about a day with everything looking fantastic. After about a day, i noticed the screen started jumping/shaking. Since I was doing some work to the laptop (installing my old hard drive) I used a screwdriver which was magnetized to retrieve the screws without losing them. When the screen first started flickering, it seemed like when what appeared to be one screw was screwed in, the screen would jump consistently. When the screw was removed, it would not. I drew the conclusion that the one screw caused the problem, and the flickering ceased for about 2 days or so. I continued using the laptop with only a couple of screws in the bottom of the laptop. The issue returned, and it seemed as if when the computer is turned on after being off long enough to cool off, it wouldn’t flicker, but when the computer warms up after about 10 minutes, the issue returns full blast. The only thing I can determine that relieves the issue is pressure on the area where the mousepad is in the middle of the computer. When pressing down (as shown in the video) the jumping ceases. When releasing, it goes back to jumping. Also, when the screen saver comes on …

I have the same problem with my Compaq CQ50. But it isn’t constant.
You have bad solder on the motherboard under the Touchpad. Usually a crystal, or capacitor. The Laptop Doctor

hmmm… having a similar problem… but what if it’s physical?
Hey, y’know I got a laptop off ebay. Two infact and neither of them had any problems at all.
One of them was a very old P4m machine, described as needing repair but worked wonderfully.
I could perhaps have been lucky though I don’t think this comment will have much brevity regarding the above situation.
That’s what you get for buying off eBay, not trying to be an ass. Try getting a new video card, otherwise the first post was very helpful.
Here If You Can Reach Your Start Bar Search “System Restore” And Click A Date That It Never Happen And Your Computer Will Restore On That Date And Make Sure What Happen That Day Never Happens Again.
that happens on my computer but i have to turn the screen off for a few mins then it stops but it comes back after a while.
mines done that
i have the same computer and the same problem
Why do you get stuff from ebay?
Isn’t that stuff used?
Under the place you’re depressing it,there may be the ribbon connecting your touchpad.Pull the top off & look for a short there
All your comments have been very helpful, Thanks to everyone who contributed. I’ve been so busy that I haven’t even had a chance to pick the laptop up from a guy I know that was supposed to “specialize” with HP laptops. I think it may be the inverter as Jamesrschultz suggested, but the guy is trying to tell me that the screen is screwed, which makes no sense to me. I’m going to pick it up this coming week so we’ll see! Thanks again guys
thats what happens to mine! but its not as bad.
I had this same thing, it is the inverter. It’s under the HP logo under the screen. It’s a fairly cheap easy fix. It’s called the inverter, you can get one like I did on Ebay.
This would happen if u overclock and use it for long periods of time..
you video card might be bad check it and replace it. or just tighten the wire on the card.
your motherboard might have a crack. maybe in the video area. pressing on it board may putt he links together. most tech guys just place piece of cardboard in 1 area to hold the board down. any other questions just ask.i repair laptops so its easy.
